Some 1,000 inspections at workplaces were carried out by the Occupational Health and Safety Authority (Ohsa) between January and June.

The authority said that during most visits, it ordered remedial action.

It also appointed 103 court cases, processed 2,211 lift certificates and delivered 74 hours of awareness-raising training. The authority also imposed €60,000 in fines.

Most infringements, Ohsa said, were in the construction sector.
