Migration has become the major challenge facing the EU today, Europeans says in the latest standard Eurobarometer survey.

The survey was carried out between May 16 and 27 in 34 countries and territories.

At 38 per cent, (+14 points) immigration was now way ahead of the economic situation (27 per cent, -6 points), unemployment (24 per cent, -5 points) and the member states public finances (23 per cent, -2 points).

It was the number one most frequently cited concern in 20 states reaching peaks in Malta (65 per cent) and Germany (55 per cent).

Concern for terrorism at EU level also increased significantly since November 2014 (17 per cent, +6 points).
