A total of 411 in-vitro fertilisation (IVF)/intracytoplasmic sperm injection cycles have been carried out in Malta in the past 30 months, 81 of which in the new IVF clinic at Mater Dei Hospital, the health parliamentary secretariat said.
It said that in all, 116 viable pregnancies have resulted from these cycles – an overall success rate of 28 per cent, three per cent over the latest figure published by the UK Human Fertilisation & Embryo Authority (HFEA).
The secretariat said the government was now looking forward to evaluate the current IVF legislation within the context of outcomes of current regulations, new local legislation involving various sectors of the Maltese community as well as recent judgments of the European Court Of Human Rights.
An inter-ministerial IVF review working committee has been set up for the purpose
It invited all stakeholders and the public to submit their contributions and suggestions.
