The fans who called for Ballet d’Europe’s encore when they took to the stage at the Royal Opera House ruins in 2006 will this weekend have the opportunity to see them again at the same venue in Valletta.

The dance company will return to the now-restored Pjazza Teatru Rjal to perform works choreographed by its founder, Jean-Charles Gil.

Their 2006 performance was well received, leading critics to say they wanted to “see more of Ballet d’Europe in years to come, even a regular fixture if possible”. This wish will come true this weekend when the company performs Folavi and Complicités, two works by five performers.

Founded in 2003, the French dance company based in Marseille was a leading player in a project supported by the European Social Fund which had been recommended by the EU as a “best practice project”.

Since 2013, the company has been composed of dancers who work independently all over Europe but still perform together under the direction of Mr Gil.

Mr Gil considers classical ballet technique as a tool for excellence, which, in turn, allows dancers to find the freedom and space to work with their emotions. Ballet d’Europe will perform at Pjazza Teatru Rjal on Saturday and Sunday at 9pm. Tickets are available from www.ticketline.com.mt or Pjazza Teatru Rjal every day between 10am and 7pm and on Saturday until 1pm.
