Bjorn Kristensen has been invited to go for a trial with Italian club Trapani.

Sources told Times of Malta that the Serie B outfit are very keen on having a closer look at the Malta international after receiving some positive recommendations about the Hibernians midfielder.

At 22, Kristensen’s best years are ahead of him but it says all about his potential that he has been a first-choice player at Hibernians for a few years to the point that he’s now regarded as one of the most experienced members in the Paolites’ squad.

Kristensen has spent his entire career with Hibernians so far but has never concealed his ambition to play overseas.

It is believed that officials from Trapani have already been in touch with Kristensen who in turn has informed Hibernians about the Sicilian club’s invitation to join them for a five-day trial.

Kristensen is reportedly willing to accept Trapani’s invite and the Hibs committee were expected to discuss the matter yesterday.

News that a foreign club are showing interest in Kristensen is not surprising in light of his consistency in the last few seasons.

Having played a key role in Hibernians’ Premier League title success last season, Kristensen further enhanced his reputation with a brilliant performance in this month’s 2-1 home victory over Israel’s Maccabi Tel Aviv in the second qualifying round of the Champions League.

A few years ago, Kristensen was linked with a move to Cypriot club Omonia Nicosia but the deal failed to materialise.

Kristensen is not the only Malta-based player who is attracting Trapani’s interest.

Igor Coronado has turned in some lively displays since joining the Serie B club for a trial earlier this month.

The Floriana playmaker came on at the start of the second half in Trapani’s 2-0 friendly win over FeralpiSalo.

Coronado had scored Trapani’s winner in the 2-1 victory over Verona last week.

The Brazilian’s prospects of earning a deal with Trapani are bright, provided that the latter reach agreement with Floriana over his transfer, but Serse Cosmi, the coach of the Serie B club, would not be drawn into commenting on Coronado.

“I can’t say anything about Coronado at this stage,” Cosmi told Times of Malta.

“He’s on trial and will remain with us until the end of our pre-season on August 6.

“At the end of his trial, the club will evaluate everything and make a decision accordingly.”

Asked whether he is aware of Trapani’s approach for Kristensen, Cosmi said he knew nothing about it as these things are handled by the club’s sports director.

Borg scores, Failla no deal

Conor Borg couldn’t have hoped for a better debut with Roma’s youth team.

The Malta U-19 midfielder came off the bench to score Roma’s equaliser in their 2-2 draw against Toronto FC II in Canada.

Borg, whose switch from Floriana to Roma was confirmed last week, had replaced Lorenzo Vasco on 65 minutes.

The Roma youngsters prevailed 5-3 in the penalty shoot-out.

Elsewhere, it was revealed that Clayton Failla will not be retained by Hull City.

Steve Bruce, the manager of the English Championship club, told Failla yesterday morning that Hull City were not in a position to offer him a contract despite declaring himself pleased with the performances in training of the Hibernians wing-back, this week.

It is believed that the signing of left-footed midfielder Sam Clucas had a bearing on Bruce’s decision to pass up the option of signing the Malta international player after Hull City had reportedly agreed a transfer fee with Hibernians.

Failla yesterday came on as a late substitute in Hull’s 4-0 friendly win over UAE side Al-Ain in Austria. The 29-year-old is due to return home this afternoon.
