A man has been killed by lightning in Russia.

News agencies quoted investigation spokeswoman Yulia Ivanova as saying he was struck by lightning in a park in the west of Moscow early today and died instantly.

The man is believed to have been a construction worker who was sheltering from heavy rain.

A thunderstorm in Moscow partially flooded several of the capital's streets, with 300 emergency workers dispatched to pump out the water.

A third of the month's average rainfall is expected over the next two days.
