People who registered a vehicle between May 1 and December 31, 2004 have until Friday to apply for a refund of the value added tax they paid on the registration tax, Transport Malta said.

It said that since the scheme was announced a few weeks ago, 2,406 out of the 3,308 people who were eligible for a refund submitted their application.

TM said that there will be one payment by cheque. The same process would be adopted in the following years, until all payments for the eligible applicants up to the end of 2008 were settled.

In the case of deceased persons, the heirs should, together with the application form, submit a joint declaration signed by a notary public, enlisting the names of the heir or heirs of the eligible deceased person and the person who would be actually receiving the grant.

Further information can be obtained from freephone 8007 2373 from Monday to Friday between 8am and 4pm, email: grantscheme.tm@transport.gov.mt .
