A 450-square metre gymnasium will be opening its doors on the ground floor of SCM02 in the last quarter of this year.

The gym will be open Monday to Sunday at convenient times for the benefit of employees forming part of the SmartCity Malta community, as well as the public from neighbouring localities.

Speaking on the new venture, Xandru Grech, owner and operator of the gymnasium, said: “The equipment can be used by members of all ages including athletes, the elderly or individuals undergoing rehabilitation from injuries. Furthermore, we will be organising inside and open-air group classes as well as boot camps for members and non-members.”

Free beach browsing with Melita Wi-Fi

Melita has completed installation of more Wi-Fi access points at Golden Bay in Mellieħa and in Gozo’s Marsalforn and Xlendi bays.

These additional free Melita Wi-Fi zones complement the promenade from Spinola Bay in St Julian’s all the way to Qui-Si-Sana in Sliema, St George’s Bay in Paceville, the main square in Buġibba to St Paul’s and part of Qawra. The Marsascala seafront as well as Pretty Bay in Birzebbuġa are also covered.

Through the service customers can access the internet from their mobile devices reaching download speeds of up to 100 Megabits.

New CEO for Fimbank

Global trade finance specialist Fimbank plc has appointed Murali Subramanian as its new CEO.

Subramanian, an Indian national, is a results-oriented senior banker with a proven track record in developing and executing growth strategies on a global basis.

Prior to joining Fimbank, Subramanian was executive vice president at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank for six years, where he held the position of head of transaction banking of the group.

His key responsibilities at this financial institution included the management of trade and supply chain growth business, where he oversaw the growth and return to profitability. This followed a 21-year career at Citibank and earlier ABN Amro, where he occupied various posts in several geographies, ending his career at Citi as managing director, global head of domestic payables.

“Subramanian’s appointment comes at a crucial time for the group. He is an experienced banker with an impressive track record,” said the group’s chairman John Grech.
