The Labour Party said today that it had kept its promise to reduce electricity bills and the government was achieving success in the energy sector.

The PL was reacting to a statement by the PN which yesterday said the retirement of Gasol, the lead contractor in the consortium building the new power station, confirmed that the project was a farce.

The PL said the PN had no credibility in the energy sector, and this was confirmed in the admissions by the leading Nationalist activists in the Google Group that Mr Fenech used to lead.

Under Labour in the past two years, bills had been reduced, Enemalta started the road to financial recovery and heavy fuel oil would soon no longer be used in power generation.

"The Labour Party promised lower bills and cleaner air and this is what is happening," the party said.

The credit agencies were acknowledging this success and Simon Busuttil could rest assured that no project was falling to bits, the party said.
