Visiting this year’s Fiera l-Kbira, I took a look at the much- discussed animal park on the Montekristo Estates since I remembered some kind of discussion about it the previous month and therefore wanted to form my own impression.
With no expectations, I entered this wildlife paradise, only to find myself in a world of desperate, poor creatures, held captive in small, smelly cages.
No matter where I looked, it was the same: a lifeless, suicidal animal. At the same time, dance music blared all over the park, mobile flash lights were going off all over the place and fists were being banged on glass windows.
I am not sure who is most to blame: the owners or the visitors, who even support the park at the end with a donation.
One thing is sure: the animals are sure losers.
Perhaps this country needs a wildlife park.
But do it right or close it down.
All I ask is that the animals are well treated.
