Career fraudster Annabelle Camilleri Monreal, who tricked people into renting apartments and villas that did not belong to her, was yesterday sentenced to a year in jail after being found guilty of defrauding more people over property rentals.

The 31-year-old Xemxija resident has a long list of convictions, including over a scam involving Gozo farmhouses.

Ms Camilleri Monreal appeared before Magistrate Carol Peralta and admitted to accepting money for rentals of properties that were not hers.

During her arraignment over this case last December, Police Inspector Godwin Scerri told the court there were long queues outside the Qawra police station consisting of people waiting to file criminal complaints against Ms Camilleri Monreal.

Last November, Ms Camilleri Monreal was sentenced to seven months in jail after admitting to defrauding an Englishman of €1,000. He had paid her to rent an apartment in St Paul’s Bay that she did not own.

She has a number of pending fraud cases, including one in which she is accused of defrauding her former employer, Zahra Trading and Properties.
