Having decided to change our evening routine, on July 7 we crossed over by ferry to Marsamxett for a pleasant walk along the bastions, had a drink and returned to Sliema just after 11pm.

We then decided to catch a bus to our final destination in Sliema.

When we boarded the bus, we were immediately informed that the Tallinja card was not valid after 11pm and the driver demanded €3 per person for a five-minute bus trip just up the road.

However, instead of demanding €6, as stipulated by law, he was “generous” enough to let us off for €5 minus the official tickets.

The note was neatly placed in his breast pocket together with many other notes.
