Birkirkara FC president Adrian Delia has described the atmosphere at the club as “electrifying” ahead of tonight’s match against West Ham United.

The team will be playing in front of a record crowd for a Uefa Europa league match with more than 12,000 tickets already sold.

Speaking to the Times of Malta Dr Delia said the players were prepared to give their all. “They are determined,” he said, urging supporters to cheer on the team throughout the 90 minutes.

Birkirkara lost the away match 1-0 at Upton Park, a surprise result that has fired the imagination of supporters.

It will be a daunting task for the home team to turn the tables on the Barclays Premier League outfit but Dr Delia said players were psychologically prepared for the game.

Birkirikara coach Giovanni Tedesco told a news conference yesterday he was cautiously upbeat that his team could pull off an upset in tonight’s home leg but he readily acknowledged that it must pose more of a threat in attack.
