Serie A club Roma finalised the transfer move of international Malta midfielder Conor Borg after filing his contract at the Italian soccer federation offices, reports said yesterday.

Borg, 18, flew to Italy last weekend to team up with the rest of the Roma youth squad before they travel to Canada for a pre-season training camp.

“Much has been said about this deal but finally Roma have deposited the contract of Conor Borg, the talented Maltese player,” laroma24.it said.

“The deal was first agreed to in March but with Borg turning 18 in May it could only be ratified now.”

In 2003, Borg had a stint with a second Italian club Chievo.

With Chievo he played in the youth ranks for most of the season.

Meanwhile, Borg’s transfer was also included in the official list of new Roma acquisitions so far this summer along with those of Riccardo Menon (ex-Cittadella), Sadiq Umar (ex-Spezia), Guerrero Ibarbo (ex-Cagliari) and Iago Falque Silva (ex-Genoa).

Borg, scouted on by Roma director of football Walter Sabatini, played for Floriana in the Premier League last season.

He left a good impression on the national team selectors, earning his first caps for the country when making the squads for the matches against Georgia (friendly) and Azerbaijan (Euro 2016 qualifier) in March.
