Esteban Cambiasso has rejected a new deal with Leicester City and will not return to the Premier League club, the former Argentina international said.

Cambiasso, 34, joined Leicester last August on a short-term contract that has now expired. He helped them avoid relegation back to the second tier in his only campaign at the Midlands club.

“I would like to announce that I have decided not to renew my contract with Leicester City,” he said in a statement.

“I have taken this decision only 24 hours after receiving the proposal from Leicester City because I want to give the club as much time as possible to find an alternative.”

Crowd trouble

Police arrested a total of 25 fans on Tuesday night following crowd trouble before and after Leeds United’s 2-1 friendly defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Austrian town of Eugendorf.

Three Leeds supporters and two police officers were injured after fighting between rival fans at the final whistle, while riot police were deployed during violent scenes in Salzburg and Eugendorf before kick-off.

Supporters from both clubs were arrested, 17 of whom were from Frankfurt, after confrontations between the rival fans on the pitch at full-time.

Miguel Britos leaves Napoli for Watford

Watford have completed the signing of Uruguayan defender Miguel Britos from Napoli.

Britos, 30, has agreed a three-year contract with the Hornets, who won promotion back to the Premier League last season.

The club announced the signing in a statement, saying: “Watford have strengthened their squad further with the permanent signing of experienced defender Miguel Britos.”

The centre-half joined Napoli from Bologna and helped them finish second in Serie A during 2012/2013, and also won the Coppa Italia twice.

Britos was sent off in what turned out to be his final appearance for Napoli after headbutting Alvaro Morata in the 3-1 defeat at Juventus on May 23.

Szczesny for Roma

Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny could be offered the chance of a loan move to Roma.

The 25-year-old played in the FA Cup final win over Aston Villa at Wembley, but lost his place in the Gunners’ Premier League side to David Ospina at the turn of the year following some inconsistent performances.

Following the arrival of veteran Petr Cech from Chelsea, the Pole appears set to get the chance of some regular match action with the Italian club.

Reports said Szczesny remains committed to Arsenal for the long term and intends to prove himself the number one again.

Balotelli future up to him – Rodgers

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists the future of Mario Balotelli (picture) lies in the player’s own hands despite his omission from their pre-season tour.

The Italy international was among a number of players, Jose Enrique and Fabio Borini included, who were left behind at the club’s Melwood training base while the rest flew out for friendlies in Thailand, Australia and Malaysia.

“Mario is obviously not on tour but working hard and training well with a number of other players at Melwood,” Rodgers said.

“I’m not sure about next season, that will entirely be up to Mario though. He is working hard to get fit and we will see when the season begins.”

Mourinho expects big fee for Stones

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has conceded it may take a huge fee to prise defender John Stones away from Everton.

The Premier League champions had a bid reported to be in the region of £20 million rebuffed by the Toffees last week, with manager Roberto Martinez criticising the Blues for the way they handled their approach.

Unperturbed, Chelsea are expected to up their offer for the 21-year-old – who they view as a long-term successor to John Terry – but Mourinho knows Everton will not let him go without a fight.

“That is the market now,” Mourinho told reporters.

“You only pay it if you want to. If you don’t want to pay it, don’t pay. It’s as simple as that.

“The market has no rules or limits from season to season.”

Atletico’s Suarez to join Fiorentina

Atletico Madrid have agreed to sell their Spain midfielder Mario Suarez to Italian side Fiorentina.

“The agreement between the clubs is complete and will be finalised in the next few hours,” Atletico said yesterday.

A graduate of Atletico’s academy, Suarez, 28, spent five seasons in the club’s first team, during which he helped them win one La Liga title as well as the Europa League, the King’s Cup, one Spanish Super Cup and two European Super Cups.

He has made three appearances for Spain, most recently in a friendly defeat against Netherlands in March, but was not included in Vicente del Bosque’s most recent squad.
