Kano Yamanaka, a sixth Dan Master, is currently in Malta as guest of the Aikido Yamato Dojo which is based in Hamrun.

Yamanaka, of Japan, is a high-ranking Aikido practitioner and ranked among the most expert martial artists in Asia.

He started Aikido back in 1963 and was fortunate to practice under the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, at his very own training quarters – the Hombu Dojo – in Tokyo. He subsequently practised and trained with two great masters of Aikido – Hiroshi Tada Sensei and Koichi Tohei Sensei.

In his career, Yamanaka conducted similar training sessions in his country as well as the United States, Cuba and Italy.

In a statement, Aikido Yamato Dojo said this is the first time that Malta is hosting such a highly-rated master directly from Japan where Aikido came to life.

The Yamato Dojo is local urging martial artists to visit their headquarters and attend Yama-naka’s training sessions on Monday and Wednesday even-ings, starting next week.
