A critical shortage of blood may force the cancellation of elective surgeries, the Blood Bank said today as it reiterated its urgent call for donations.

The bank made an urgent call for donations yesterday saying reserves were critical since fewer donations were being made because of the hot weather.

It said today that the situation had persisted and operations might have to be cancelled.

Donors can call at the Blood Bank, just outside St Luke’s Hospital in Guardamangia, from 8am to 6pm daily, including on Sundays. They have to be in possession of their identity card, driver's licence or Maltese passport.
