The article about Fomm ir-Riħ (July 15) has fired up another controversy between the environmentalists, the Ramblers Association and others that wish to have access to this beautiful bay as Maltese citizens.

I am sure that there are more secluded bays that the public do not know much about. A case in point is Għajn Barrani Bay, l/o Xagħra, Gozo (photo).

I had discovered this enchanting, secluded bay more than 40 years ago.

One could descend the sloping terrain through an extremely difficult pathway to the beach. However, this tricky track has now disappeared after a huge storm hit Gozo some years ago. This means that the only access is now by boat.

The Fomm ir-Riħ debate is extremely delicate. The environmentalists are worried that by changing the very rough pathway to a more accessible track, the risk of abuse will increase.

Perhaps Fomm ir-Riħ, Għajn Barrani, Selmun and other beautiful secluded beaches in Malta and Gozo should be left as Mother Nature intended.
