Mellieħa Bay is one of our leading beaches and, over the last few years, it has been awarded Blue Flag status. However, it does lack facilities, especially for persons with special needs.

There are only three Blue Sticker parking bays among the hundreds available. Secondly, drop-off and pick-up bays are not available for families to drop or collect their kids and beach furniture.

Thirdly, most of the pavements are in a bad state and their height is more than that of a standard pavement. Parking a car and opening its doors is a very difficult task.

The first two points are easily solved and a day’s work should do it. A good number of Blue Sticker parking bays can be installed on the beach road side without causing any difficulty. Proper signage must be installed and enforcement is required so that such bays are only used by Blue Sticker holders.

The last point requires a long-term plan and investment but I am sure that such an upgrade is necessary for the benefit of all those who spend their time at this bay.
