Fined: Bulgarian clubs Marek Dupnitsa and Haskovo have been fined after UEFA raised suspicions of match fixing, the Bulgarian Football Union said. The two clubs, relegated from the top flight last season, were denied licences to compete in this season’s professional championship because of their inability to deal with spiralling debts. The BFU said it imposed a fine of 210,000 levs ($116,621) on Marek and 10,000 levs on Haskovo.

Roux: St Etienne have completed their fourth summer signing, bringing in Lille forward Nolan Roux on a three-year deal. The 27-year-old joins fellow new recruits Vincent Pajot, Kevin Theophile-Catherine and Benoit Assou-Ekotto at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard.

Mitrovic: Newcastle United have signed Serbian forward Aleksandar Mitrovic from Belgian side Anderlecht, subject to a work permit. The prolific 20-year-old scored 44 goals in 90 appearances during two seasons in Belgium and arrives at St James’ Park for a figure reported to be in the region of £13 million.

Fabri: Marseille have tied goalkeeper Julien Fabri to a two-year contract extension before loaning him to Bourg-Peronnas. The 21-year-old shot-stopper will spend the 2015-16 campaign with the newly-promoted Ligue 2 side.

Head injury: Australia’s soccer supremo Frank Lowy underwent surgery in Europe last week for injuries believed to be related to a fall at the A-League Grand Final in May, Westfield Corp said. The 84-year-old Football Federation Australia chief was treated for a subdural haematoma, a blood clot on the brain.

Duffus: Courtney Duffus has signed a two-year contract extension with Everton to keep him at Goodison Park until 2017. The 19-year-old forward is yet to make his senior bow for the Toffees, but he was named on the bench for a Europa League tie against Young Boys in February.
