Hibs bowed out of the Champions League when they were defeated 5-1 by Maccabi Tel-Aviv in the second leg of the qualifying round.

Hibs had surprisingly won the first leg match at home 2-1 but it was an uphill struggle against the Israeli champions this evening.

Goalkeeper Jurgen Borg distinguished himself for Hibs throughout the match.

The first goal against the Malta champions was an own goal by Jorge Pereira, who had moved down from his normal position to help the defence.,

Rodolfo Soares equalised in the 52nd minute but six minutes later Tel Aviv were back in the lead with a penalty goal by Eran Zahavi.

Tal Ben Haim put Tel-Avid firmly in control with another goal in the 61st minute.

Andrew Cohen came close to reducing the deficit when a header hit the woodwork in the 67th minute.

The last goals were by Nosa Emanuel Igiebor in the 82nd minute and again by Eran Zahavi, just before the final whistle.
