The annual rate of inflation as measured by the Retail Price Index has risen from -0.1 per cent in June last year to 1.24 per cent last month, the National Statistics Office said.

It said in a statement that the main upward impacts on annual inflation were in the food index (0.54 percentage points), the recreation and culture index (0.24 percentage points) and the other goods and services index (0.21 percentage points).

This was mainly due to higher prices for vegetables, expenses related to education and increase in insurance costs.

The largest downward impact was brought about by the transport and communication index (0.32 percentage points).

This was mainly due to a price reduction in fuels.
