Months ago Eden Cinemas had announced that they wouldbe transmitting the opera La Boheme from the Royal Opera Covent Garden during the month of June, 2015, the main artistes being Joseph Calleja and Anna Netrebko.

Anticipation turned into enthusiastic expectation when the date of showing was announced. Ticket prices were reduced due to the performance being screened one week after it was actually staged at Covent Garden.

Alas, a technical hitch in the middle of the first act forced the management to cancel the screening, apologise and refund the ticket cost.

The 60 or so persons that so longed for this unique performance were utterly disappointed and were hopeful that the Eden management would find it possible to re-screen the opera. This has not been the case so far.

Incidentally, the screen blacked out at the exact moment when tenor Calleja exclaimed to Mimi “anche il mio e spento”, pretending his candle had blown out after hers.
