Stefan Savic has confirmed he will join Atletico Madrid from Fiorentina on a permanent transfer.

Both clubs have reportedly reached a deal for Savic to move to the Vicente Calderon stadium and the Montenegro international arrived to Madrid yesterday to complete formalities on the deal.

The 24-year-old centre-back is expected to sign a five-year contract with Atletico.

“I’m really happy as I’m joining a great club,” Savic told the Spanish media.

“I’m delighted to be here. I need to undergo a medical before joining my new team.”

Savic, who is under contract with Fiorentina until June 2019, joined the Serie A side three years ago from Manchester City and made 28 league starts in the 2014-15 season.

If the deal is finalised, Savic will join an Atletico side that finished third in La Liga during the last campaign and will play in the Champions League.

“I’m really looking forward to joining Atletico,” Savic said.

“(Atletico Madrid coach) Diego Simeone is the best coach in the world and I’m happy to work with him.”

The Spanish press report that, as part of the deal that will bring Savic to the Vicente Calderon, Atletico midfielder Mario Suarez will move the opposite way.

Suarez made 11 league starts for Atletico in the recently-concluded campaign and is willing to leave the Rojiblancos in search of more playing time.
