An extra virgin olive oil, produced by Agribio-Evo, an organisation operating in the territory of Squillace-Biorgia, Calabria, was introduced at the Italo-Maltese Chamber of Commerce.

The oil is produced by cold pressing within 24 hours of collection with the use of mechanical procedures to maintain the olive’s sensory properties intact.

The result is an olive oil of green colour with golden yellow reflections and a very low degree of oleic acidity, which is ideal for a healthy lifestyle and suitable for all types of cooking.

The biological oil was introduced by Antonio Riillo, who represented the various producers operating under Agribio-Evo. Riillo explained the production process, emphasising that the oil should be bottled immediately.

The oil was also exhibited at the Malta International Trade Fair at Ta’ Qali, where visitors and prospective buyers could view typical products of Calabria’s olive sector and meet the oil producers.

Attending the events were Denis Borg, the chamber’s secretary general, Giovanni Aramini, a leader in the industry in Calabria, Raffaele Spadea, the project’s officer entrusted with the financial backing, Santino Pascuzzi, the project’s coordinator, and Riccardo Bruno, provincial councillor, delegate for culture and deputy mayor of Borgia council.

Tasting sessions are being planned in Malta for September.

In October, prospective buyers will be attending sessions in Calabria, where they will be witnessing the whole oil-making and production process.
