A new diploma in dental surgery assistance MQF level 5 course will be introduced in October by the University’s Faculty of Dental Surgery.
The two-year course will provide a sound theoretical basis and a broad range of clinical and management skills central to the role of dental assistants.
Such personnel are responsible for setting up of dental clinics for planned dental procedures and maintaining the clinics’ cleanliness and sterility.
Other duties include facilitating patient comfort before, during and after dental treatment and providing them with oral care instructions after treatment, and teaching them appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health.
The faculty is also offering a BSc (Hons) in dental hygiene.
Dental hygienists provide preventive services and educational information to the public to practise behaviour that prevents the development of oral disease and promotes better oral health.
