Malta champions Hibernians FC could face a trip to the Czech Republic in the next round of the Champions League.

Yesterday, Branko Nisevic’s men were drawn to play Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round if they eliminate Maccabi Tel Aviv in the second round.

Earlier this week the Paolites hit back from a goal down to beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-1 and travel to Israel for the second leg on Tuesday.

The ball including the names of Hibs and Maccabi was drawn out first for the third round which takes place on July 28-29 and August 4-5.

Viktoria Plzen will be making their first official showing this summer against either Hibs or Maccabi.

The Czech champions are seasoned campaigners in Europe and in 2013-14 they participated in the Champions League group stage.

Plzen failed to make the knock-out stages though as they were outclassed by Bayern Munich and Manchester City to settle for third place.

They reached the last 16 of the Europa League but were eliminated by Lyon 5-3 on aggregate.

Last year, Plzen’s stay in the Europa League was cut short by Petrolul Ploiesti, of Romania, 5-2 on aggregate. However, Plzen won the Czech league after winning 23 of their 30 matches to finish five points ahead of Sparta Prague.

Involved in the knockout stage last term, Monaco, Basel and Shakhtar Donetsk were among the teams to discover their opponents yesterday.

Quarter-finalists last season, Monaco will take on Young Boys and Shakhtar Donetsk play Fenerbahce in the first leg of their tie.

Basel were paired with Bosnia’s FK Sarajevo or Lech Poznan, of Poland.
