Veteran indoor rower Ken Lake (picture) continued to write his name in the sport’s record books after establishing two new records in the Concept 2 Ski Erg 60s categories.

The Concept 2 Ski Erg is a very competitive rowing machine used by thousands around the globe. It is synonymous mostly with the cross country skiing fraternity, including the USA, Canada and Scandinavia, and crossfit trainers everywhere.

There are age category championships and records for the Ski Erg and records are held predominantly by the ski country inhabitants… that is until now.

Lake has represented Malta in indoor rowing championships all over Europe and has won the Italian and Scottish national titles. He is currently ranked in the top 10 of the world in many distance categories.

The times he set in his record-breaking achievements were 1:36.6 seconds for 500m and 3:28.8 seconds for 1,000m.

The previous 1,000m Ski Erg record had stood for five years and was held by a Norwegian skier and tri athlete.

Lake is a fitness consultant and personal trainer based at the Marsa Sports Club. He has competed in various sports since a young age, including football, boxing, shooting, abseiling, racquet sports and cross country.

Lake will be assisting in the European Week of Sport where he will conduct an indoor rowing competition for all age groups to be held on September 8.
