A man was today remanded in custody pending the compilation of a pre-sentencing report after pleading guilty to the theft of several items from the Refugee Commission's office in Msida.

Repeat-offender Terence Vella, 33, who lives close to the Commission's office, pleaded guilty to breaking into the offices in Rue D'Argens on Thursday night from where he stole three laptops and other items.

He also pleaded guilty to relapsing.

Defence counsel Simon Micallef Stafrace said his client was pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity and asked the court to appoint a probation officer to compile a report before judgment is handed down.

Magistrate Doreen Clarke acceded to the request and deferred the case to August 24 for the report to be exhibited in court.

Police Inspectors James Grech and Jean Farrugia prosecuted.
