The other day I tried my Tallinja card for the first time. All went well but as I was sitting on the bus I started to wonder.

Although I am in favour of the new payment system, I recalled that they said they were introducing the system to avoid having passengers paying the driver and making the bus wait.

True, but when on the bus I realised that in the old system many passengers did not do this because all that those on the return journey had to do was to show the driver the ticket and move in. Now, with the Tallinja card, every passenger has to ‘pay’ on every journey made, return or not.

Secondly, why are we so fixated on speed and rapidity? Is it so important? I would think not. I would think that what is important would be punctuality so that one can plan his or her journey.

Whenever we are abroad we do not hesitate to use trains, trams, buses or the tube precisely for this reason; because they are punctual and they get you to your destination on time.

Moreover, if the law requires that we get a VAT receipt every time we buy an object or service, why are we not being given tickets on the buses as proof of payment?
