The police had to taser a man who threatened them as he grabbed two knives after their help was sought by the man’s mother.

The mother yesterday reported that her 36-year-old son was abusing drugs at home and she could not control him. She said that her son had caused substantial damage and was in possession of a firearm.

However, he went out soon after she reported him and the woman was instructed to inform the police station as soon as he returned.

Zabbar district police were informed that the man returned home today and together with officers from the Rapid Intervention Unit they went to the woman’s home in Triq il-Fabbriki, Xgħajra to search the residence.

They found the man in the sitting room rolling something and with a number of syringes close by.

As soon as he saw them, he gave them to understand that he would cooperate, however, he immediately grabbed two knives and started threatening them.

The police said they were left with no option but to taser the man both for his security as well as that of those around him until he could be handcuffed.

The man gave up and no further incidents were reported.

A number of used syringes, knives and broken glass were found in the room.
