An officer-cadet in the maritime section of the Armed Forces of Malta has completed his training at Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in the UK.

Second Lieutenant Keith Marshall, 25, was one of 120 Officer Cadets who took part in the passing-out parade, watched by their families, friends and distinguished guests, including Vice Admiral Ian Corder, UK Military Representative to NATO and the European Union.

Lt Marshall joined the Armed Forces of Malta in 2013 and over the last 30 weeks trained alongside UK cadets destined for careers in the Royal Navy and other international students. Most of the training took place at Dartmouth and also included a three-week ship attachment. Lt Marshall was assigned to HMS Bulwark, while the ship was operating in UK waters.

“This has been a very hard, but satisfactory journey. Being on board HMS Bulwark was an interesting experience and I managed to learn a lot. I consider physical fitness as one of my weaknesses so I was very pleased to get a distinguish pass during my military fitness pass out. Another highlight of the training was passing the maritime assessed leadership exercise, with full marks,” Lt Marshall said.

A former pupil of Guzeppi Despott, Verdala Boys Junior Lyceum, Lt Marshall also studied at the Mcast Maritime Institute. He worked as a shipping agent prior to joining the Armed Forces of Malta.
