Celta Vigo have snapped up former Manchester City striker John Guidetti on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Celtic, has signed a five-year deal with the Spanish club.

Celta are hoping Guidetti can rediscover the form that he showed prior to suffering a virus in 2012 which threatened to derail his career.

Guidetti joined Manchester City as a youngster in 2008 but made his name during a loan spell with Feyenoord, when he scored 20 goals in 23 Eredivisie appearances, also earning full Sweden honours in the process.

Club owner Assem Allam, who first floated the idea in the summer of 2013, has threatened to sell the club should he not get his way.

Allam put the club up for sale after failing with his first application 15 months ago and it re-mains to be seen whether he will continue as owner.

Eduardo, now 32, first moved to Shakhtar on a four-year contract in July 2010 from Arsenal after his Premier League career was disrupted by a broken leg in 2008.

“A thousand emotions and a thousand memories tie me to Empoli and it will always be my home. I thought about it long and hard over the last few days.

Ronaldinho signs for Fluminense

Two-times former World Player of the Year Ronaldinho has signed a 17-month contact with Fluminense.

He joined the Rio de Janeiro side after terminating his contract with Mexican club Queretaro, where he spent almost a year, Fluminense said in a statement.

The 35-year old said he was coming home to try and win Brazil’s Serie A, one of the few medals missing from his trophy cabinet.

“That was one of the things that most motivated me to return home to Brazil, in search of a title that I don’t have, as well as this being a club with great players,” he told the club’s website, adding that regular appearances at Rio’s Maracana stadium were also a big draw.
