The Malta Jazz Festival will be celebrating its 25th annual edition this year with a programme spread over four days instead of the normal three, and a greater number of activities in the Jazz on the Fringe programme.
Apart from the usual concerts and gigs held under the Jazz on the Fringe initiative in various venues around the island, the Fringe Youth Ensemble will also be launched this year.
Conceived by Sandro Zerafa, the Festival’s Art Director, the ensemble combines the best of young talent from Malta, including past winners of the Malta Jazz Contest, with young talented artists from Italy.
The project is a collaboration with the renowned CDPM school in Bergamo. It will debut on the main stage of the Malta Jazz Festival and at the Notti di Luce Festival in Bergamo.
Following last year’s success, the Malta Jazz Camp will be once again be providing free master classes in piano, saxophone and other musical instruments, targeted at younger musicians.
The Festival will also feature the 3rd edition of the Malta Jazz Contest, which has been giving up-and-coming artists the chance to perform abroad. The winner of the 2014 edition, Warren Galea, participated in the Festival 'Les Sons d'Une Ile' in Paris while Carlo Muscat who won the 2nd prize will be invited to participate in the Bergamo Jazz 2015.
