Malta won a flurry of medals at the FISEC Games yesterday as home athletes made their mark in the swimming and track and field competitions.

Gabriel Dimech and Michael Stafrace struck gold at the National Pool.

Dimech won the 50m free while Stafrace touched home first in the 50m breaststroke.

Stafrace then placed third in the 200m breast final.

Amy Micallef added two silver medals (50m and 200m breaststroke) to Malta’s tally.

Francesca Falzon Young was second in the 50m freestyle while Charice Ceccarelli took bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Jordan Calleja and Jeremy Bugeja placed third in the 200m and 50m free respectively.

The other bronze in the pool came from the boys’ 4x200m freestyle relay team.

At the Matthew Micallef St John athletics track in Marsa, Jessica Bonnici secured the gold medal in the 3,000m race.

Luca Martini won the hammer event ahead of team-mate Karol Spiteri who took silver.

In women’s basketball , Malta lost 53-19 to France.

Malta B suffered their second defeat in the football tour-nament after going down 2-0 to Great Britain.

In futsal, Portugal had the better of Malta 4-1.
