US Ambassador Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley and her daughter Kara hosted a reception to mark the 239th anniversary of American independence.

The theme this year was ‘Discover America’, with an emphasis on accessible tourism for people with disabilities.

In brief remarks on the occasion, the ambassador invited guests to discover the US’s boundless attractions through its diverse culinary traditions that celebrate delicious food, authentic character and timeless appeal.

An exhibition of photographs showcased the exciting variety of American landscapes, wildlife and people.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, the ambassador stressed the importance of inclusive, accessible tourism, saying the industry was a vital economic factor in the US and in Malta.

“We cannot afford to neglect the great positive impact inclusive, accessible tourism can have on this sector,” she said.

The ambassador expressed satisfaction for the excellent bilateral relations between the US and Malta and thanked those American companies operating in Malta for their support and annual commitment to sponsoring the Independence Day reception.

The Ambassador’s Combo, a US Air Force band, performed popular jazz and rock tunes.

President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca was also present.
