On the Sliema Front, just before you reach the building site of the former Tower Palace Hotel, driving towards St Julian’s, the road has badly subsided in two places.

This is obviously not because of our much-maligned porous stone used in road building supposedly because the country cannot afford using better material. So I humbly ask: What’s the cause? Is it bad workmanship in road construction? Lack of quality control? Accidental damage by heavy machinery?

Whatever the cause, why not repair the damage urgently? Don’t the thousands of drivers using this road daily deserve a decent repair job without further delay?
