I feel sorry for people like Christopher Chegwyn (The Sunday Times of Malta, June 21) and others who are treated so badly – to put it mildly – by bus drivers as well as by Transport Malta.

A couple of months ago, a good friend of mine took bus number 106 in the direction of Ta’ Qali from near St Helen Basilica in Birkirkara. However, when the bus came to the top of the hill, it took a turn right to Mater Dei and not a left to Ta’ Qali.

My friend approached the driver and politely asked him why he was not going to Ta’ Qali, pointing out that it was what the destination on the front and side of the bus showed. But the shabbily-dressed, unshaven driver rudely told him that he should have asked about the route as soon as he boarded the bus.

To add insult to injury, the driver insisted on taking him directly to Mater Dei to catch another bus from there, refusing to let him get off before. This delay caused my friend a lot of inconvenience, but the driver did not seem to care.

My friend was greatly offended and tried his luck with the Transport Authority, which acknowledged his complaint but, alas, failed to take any action.
