Reference is made to Ates Orga’s review of the closing concert of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra (‘A fitting finale’, Culture and Entertainment, The Sunday Times of Malta, June 21), at the end of which he asks with bated breath what we should be expecting for the coming season.

For a start, there will probably be a few more visits from the UK by Orga, all expenses paid courtesy of the MPO, for him to tell us what a ‘wonderful’ job chairman Sigmund Mifsud and conductor Brian Schembri are doing.

Reading such a review, as well as other interviews given by exponents from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, one easily gets a wrong impression that prior to 2013 the orchestra was in a state of misery.

As a matter of interest, somebody from the MPO (if there is anybody left from the administration) might wish to inform us how much the visits are costing the taxpayer.
