Interviewing some people from the Baltic EU states about the Greek debt crisis, a radio BBC commentator made the point that the official standard of living in Greece is actually higher than several other EU countries, including Malta’s.

It’s not the first time we’ve seen financial crises created by politicians promising unaffordable public sector spending and then blaming the crunch on bankers.
