Archbishop Charles J Scicluna received the archbishop's bishop's pallium from the Apostolic Nuncio on behalf of the Pope in a ceremony at St John's Co-Cathedral this morning.

The congregation applauded as the pallium was placed around his neck as he knelt on the altar.

It was a bitter-sweet moment for Mgr Scicluna, with his mother leading the congregation, but his father having passed away last week.

The pallium is a symbol of the jurisdiction delegated to the archbishop by the Holy See and the communion of the archbishop with the Pope.

It is a narrow band woven of white lamb's wool with small black crosses. It is worn over the shoulders.
