A woman today pleaded guilty to obtaining false stamps on her passport to remain in Malta with the man with whom she had fallen in love and married.

Jasmina Gauci Mijatovic, a 29-year-old Serbian national, admitted to being in possession of a passport with false stamps, saying she had done so in order to remain in Malta and extend her visa.

Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras heard how she had fallen in love with the Maltese man and the couple have since tied the knot.

Defence lawyer Francios Dalli said his client had committed "a mistake" and was promising to never do it again.

The court imposed a nine-month prison term suspended for two years.
Police Inspector Mario Haber prosecuted.
