Parliamentary Secretary for Planning Michael Falzon this afternoon lashed out at the Opposition over its actions in Parliament last night,  accusing it of adopting a destructive approach and resorting to old-fashioned tactics to try and shoot down every government initiative.

Reacting to a PN news conference held this morning, Dr Falzon said the Opposition had even voted against amendments to the Strategic Plan for the Environment and Development (SPED) filed by NGOs.

He questioned the sudden change of heart by the Opposition, saying that up to a month ago, the PN newspaper had hailed the fact that the amendments had been unanimously approved at committee stage.

However, yesterday the Opposition MPs had voted against them.

Dr Falzon said the Opposition was contradicting itself and was showing incompetence.

Environment Minister Leo Brincat dismissed calls from the Opposition to suspend the second reading debate on the Mepa demerger Bill till the end of public consultation, saying there would still be room for submissions during committee stage, when amendments would be made.
