The Malta Hockey Association is mourning the death of former national coach Anthony Tabone who passed away yesterday, aged 68.

The son of former Sliema and Floriana football player Frankie Tabone, Anthony Tabone took up several sporting disciplines but he made a name for himself in hockey where he enjoyed a distinguished career, which spanned over 28 years, both as a player and coach.

Tabone was player-coach of White Hart.

During his spell with the club he won the national league and the cup competition eight times each.

He was named player of the year in 1981-82.

In 1995 Tabone was handed the job of Malta coach.

Tabone led the national team to victories over Greece and Cyprus in the European Championships.

He stepped down from the post in 2006.
