Police Day 2015 is marked in Gozo on July 14.

The ceremony should give attention to PC Santo Cassar 201 who, in 1914, became the only police officer in Gozo to have died from gunshot wounds while on duty. He was buried at the Gozo Cathedral.

Exactly 100 years after his tragic death in the main square of Zebbug, a commemorative plaque was unveiled during a ceremony on Saturday, August 1, 2014, at the location where the whole episode took place.

PC Cassar suffered grievous injuries and died later at the Victoria hospital, which today is the premises of the Ministry for Gozo.

On July 14, a programme of activities will start at 6.30pm with a Mass celebrated at the Santa Marija cemetery chapel, followed by the blessing of police graves and laying of flowers.

Cassar was a hero. I urge people to lay flowers at the Zebbug main square too.
