The 67th edition of the FISEC Games, the multi-sports festival for student athletes, will be held in Malta between next Wednesday and July 14.

The Maltese organisers confirmed that around 800 teenagers, attending catholic schools from 12 countries, will be competing for medals in six sport – track and field, basketball, football, futsal, swimming and volleyball.

Those participating will come from different parts of the globe including Brazil from South America.

It was confirmed that the venues to be used will be the Marsa athletics ground, the basketball pavilion in Ta’ Qali, Centenary Stadium, Tal-Qroqq National Pool and the Cottonera Sports Complex.

Brother Martin Borg, chairman of the local FISEC council, said the Games have become synonymous with the country with Malta playing hosts on various other occasions in the recent past.

In fact, this will be the sixth time that the Games will be held here since 1997.

“This is not the first time we shall have all these young guests in our country for the FISEC Games,” Brother Martin said during the launching last weekend.

“We play an important role in this organisation and, in fact, we also have two officials – Carmen Carabott and Julie Bajada – occupying roles in the international committee.”

Carabott is FISEC International secretary general and Bajada is currently engaged in the Commission Internationale de Réflection Pédagogique et Pastorale (CIRPP), a key group within the FISEC organisation.

Among those who attended the launching on Saturday were Parliamentary Secretary for Sport Chris Agius, Kunsill Malti għall-Isport acting chief executive Mark Cutajar and FISEC Malta vice president Louis Borg.

They were all in unison that the FISEC Games help bring together young people with different cultural backgrounds from all over the world to promote friendship and the spirit of fair play.

“The Games are not all about competition and medals,” Louis Borg said.

“They help to keep alive the true values in life, particularly respect towards others, the same values on which these Games will continue to grow and evolve.”
