An explosion which damaged part of the Toyota showroom in Zebbug last night was caused by an improvised explosive device, informed sources said this morning.

The blast shattered glass panes and damaged a pick-up inside the showroom, but no one was injured.

The explosion happened at about 1.15am.

People on the scene reported that the blast sounded like a big petard, but the sources said the explosion was not caused by festa fireworks.

Those on the scene this morning included AFM commander Brig Jeffrey Curmi and the AFM bomb disposal unit.

A magisterial inquiry is under way.

The Debono Group, importers of Toyota, said they are open for business as usual.
