I read with keen interest the article written by Marc Kosciejew (July 1) on a subject of great importance: the role public libraries have in a civilised society. I fully agree with the author.

A suggestion which I would like to put to the authorities concerned is to have the main public library, which has now been located in Floriana for several years, transferred to the now vacant premises which used to house Cafe Premier in Treasury Street, Valletta. Besides being adjacent to the National Library, this move would indeed be most welcome by one and all, especially senior citizens and students. Valletta is more inviting and accessible (especially for those using public transport) than the present location in Floriana, more so during the rainy season and the hot summer days.
