Retail trade grew by 4.9 per cent in May over the previous year, confirming a rising trend, figures out yesterday showed.
Malta had the fourth highest increase in retail trade along with Latvia, according to Eurostat, the European statistical agency.
The figure bounced back from a relatively lower upswing in April when the volume of retail trade had expanded by 1.8 per cent.
Poland, with an increase of 7.6 per cent, saw the highest growth in retail trade by volume in May, followed by Estonia and Ireland at 5.7 per cent and 5.6 per cent respectively.
The eurozone average retail trade increase stood at 2.4 per cent while that of the EU amounted to three per cent.
