€325,010 were raised for Dar tal-Providenza, residential homes for people with a disability, in a special programme of Xarabank yesterday.

The four-hour programme was held to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Home, which was set up by Mgr Mikiel Azzoprdi with a donation of just Lm100. Last night, the amount of donations was at one time rising by €100 every five-seven seconds.

The programme was one of contrasts, highlighting the heartbreaking stories of various individuals suffering disabilities, while MPs and other public figures entertained viewers with their 'singing' dancing and impersonations.

The programme was presented by Peppi Azzopardi who said some of the funds will be used to enable persons with disability to travel to Rome for an audience with Pope Francis.

The annual volleyball marathon to raise funds for Dar tal-Providenza also started yesterday on the grounds of the home in Siggiewi. The marathon continues till Sunday.
